Hurricane Harvey

Friday afternoon we were allowed to leave school early to finish preparations for Hurricane Harvey.
We had lots of water, food, and Rook to hopefully make it through.
At this point no one knew how bad it would really be.

The rain started Friday night and during a break on Saturday we browsed the aisles of Wal-Mart.

We got home just in time for the tornado warnings. This tornado touched down less than 3 miles away from our home, and hit the neighborhood my school is in.
We spent almost the whole evening in the bathroom downstairs and decided it was safest to sleep downstairs.

 After a long night, there was a break in rain on Sunday for us. The boys made a dam and played in the puddles.

Then it really took a turn for the worse. Harvey would not move out and was just sitting on top of Houston. It was another long night as we monitored water levels, but thankfully our never got close to our house and our street drained quickly.

I wish I could say the same for the rest of our city.
These are borrowed photos:

Monday night we had our friends over for dinner, movies, and Rook.

Loved getting to help a family with some needs with my boys.

 So many emotions. I'm feeling fortunate that our home has not flooded and that my students are safe, feeling heartbroken for those whose have been evacuated and lost everything, and feeling joyful as I saw the outpouring of donations and help through out the city. Please continue to pray for our city and state, it will be a long road to recovery.

Psalm 5: 11-12"But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
    let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
    that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;
    you surround them with your favor as with a shield."

#hartzeveryday2017 Week 33

Day 224: Love Sunday pictures with my boys!

Day 225: Being a parent is hard! We fail a lot, but it's because we are lost and so our kids. We all need Jesus and to soak in the grace He offers. In all I do I want to point my boys to Him!

Day 226: Yesterday when I told Jackson I met Lauren Tarshis he was so excited, so today I surprised him with an authograph copy of his favorite book!

Day 227: Family worship!

Day 228: Someone knows all his letters!!!!

Day 229: It was a bit of a tough transition week for Lincoln as I went back to work. He did great at school, but mornings were rough. Thankfully we ended the week on a high note!

Day 230: One of my favorite days...back to school shopping date with Jackson! We started at Starbucks for a snack and prayer for the new year. Then, I let him pick out some new clothes. His favorite purchase is shoes!! And the BEST thing is that he said he is most excited about 3rd grade because he gets to see me at lunch and recess!!
