The Stockings Are Hung

It's official there is lots of Christmas cheer in our house. This weekend we put up our Christmas tree and decorated the house. I love Christmas decorations and want to buy everything from Pier 1 and Target:) However, I will only splurge a little and wait for after Christmas sales.

Jackson is in awe by the Christmas tree. He has actually left it alone so far, we will see how long that lasts!

Putting up the tree right now is very different from when I was growing up. I remember my dad going down to the basement and bringing up the tree and ornaments. It took us forever to unwrap all of our ornaments and then place them in just the right spot on the tree. Our tree had so many ornaments because each year my mom would let my sister and me pick out a new ornament for the year. The tree looked like it threw up ornaments but it represented many things we liked, or made, and held lots of memories. As we put each one on the tree I would talk with my mom about it or laugh about it! Right now our Christmas tree looks very classic but I can't wait to have a tree filled with ornaments that Jackson picked out or made for me with love. I also want it to be a family event with Christmas music and lots of laughter. Christmas is very commerical but I pray that every tradition we do with Jackson will be tied to the real meaning of Christmas and done as a family. This is the time of the year that I miss my family the most and hate being far away. I do love that I have a family now that I can carry on some of the things I love most about the holiday season.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got to spend the day with two of the people I love most! I love days with no agenda, no place to go, just lots of relaxing and eating. Thanks to my Aunt Midge I didn't even have to do any of the cooking. I did make a carmel apple pie, YUM!

We started the day with an early morning stroll, singing praise to God for all He has blessed us with. I love this holiday because there is no focus on decorations or presents, just time with family.

Target- I love their clearance racks!

Uninterrupted sleep- I take what I can get and Brian is awesome at getting up for me sometimes

Winter in Houston- No shoveling, scrapping ice off my windows, or temperatures below 32.

X-rays- They allow Brian to have a job and provide for us.

Party Animal

This weekend Jackson attended his first birthday party. His friend Cadence turned ONE!
Jackson excited to be at the party!
Jackson and the Birthday girl. Isn't she adorable? It is hard to get a picture of two moving babies.
Jackson and Cadence are so cute together. Jackson wanted to be able to walk like her so bad. He would just watch her and take it all in. He also likes to pull her hair and try and bite her fingers. I can't wait till they can run around together.
Not sure what his problem is, but Cadence is happy. I was surprised he kept the hat on.
I have less than 4 months to get ready for Jackson's first birthday! I am excited to start planning for it and can only imagine what he will do with his cake:)

Purplicious

The girls in my class love the books Pinkalicious and Purplicious by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann.

Lately I too have had a fetish with purple.

I have bought:

- some purple flats with jewels-- an instant pop of color to any outfit,

- a purple scraf-- again an accent to my outift,

- a dark purple wrap dress with 3/4 quarter rolled sleeves (very cute:),

-this purple turtleneck lightweight sweater (pictured below) and another chunky fun shortsleeved sweater,

-I thought of buying a purple leather purse and I am painting my workout room a shade of purple.

Purple is the new black, right? :)

Goodbye...Hello

Goodbye little bathtub, Hello Big Rubber Ducky!

Now bathtime is even more fun, although Jackson is not quite sure about the noises he makes.
(Thanks Stacy, he loved it!)
Goodbye infant carseat, hello stage 2 carseat!
Jackson has hit the weight limit for the infant carseat. It is nice not hauling the carseat around however when he falls alseep in his new one it is harder to transfer him to the house without waking up.

Goodbye staying in one place, hello crawling!
Jackson has been rolling all over the place, but hasn't really gone anywhere on his belly. Today he has done it a couple of times. He doesn't quite get up on all fours and he only uses his right leg to push himself.

Goodbye wonderful weekend of fun and relaxation, hello work week!

Torn Emotions

I LOVE to bake cookies, pies, bars and cook dinner, but

I DESPISE cleaning up the mess.

I LOVE how much Jackson is learning and growing, but

I CAN'T BELIEVE how fast the time goes by.

I LOVE teaching 1st grade, but
I DISLIKE that there is always something I "could/should" be doing at home for school.

Jackson LOVES playing, smiling, and laughing, but

RESENTS his afternoon nap!

We LOVE taking walks outside, but

LOATHE the mosquitoes and think they should go away!

I LOVE reading but,

I am DISAPPOINTED that I have very little time to indulge in this pleasure.
I LOVE my boys and
There is NO if's, and's, or but's about that!

Getting Over Myself

Lately I have been beating myself up over not keeping the house clean enough, making dinner every night, putting laundry away, etc. I have wasted a bunch of my time wishing I was able to stay home with Jackson. But, you know what I am over it now.
I have decided to bask in the glory of God and claim his promises on my life. He tells us to "rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven." (Matthew 5:12) I have nothing to "pout" about. God has given me a great life here and an even better one to look forward to. He has poured out blessing abundantly on my life and I don't want to miss any of them or not enjoy them to the fullest because I am wishing for something else.
* * *
Jackson Oliver- you bring a smile to face and melt my heart when I see you and especially when you smile or gigfle at me.
I don't want to miss any time with you because I am worried about "the dishes" they will still be there tomorrow.
Thank you for teaching me to be self-less and love more!

Brian- Thank you for trying to teach me to enjoy ALL of life and not be so hard on myself. Thank you for spoiling me and making me feel loved to the core. Thank you for praying with me and for me. You make my heart oh-so happy!

Lord, Thank you for using my family to minister to me. My prayer is the same as David's in Psalm 51, please "create in me a pure and clean heart, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."

Up To No Good

It is always something new with Jackson these days. He can easily sit himself up now and likes to pull up on his crib to try and reach the mobile. So we decided to move his crib down before he jumped out:) He loves to sit, roll around, and play in his crib. When I went in his room to check on him before I went to bed, I couldn't believe how grown up he looked sleeping way down in the crib. It is also a lot harder to give him a kiss when I check on him and causes more back pain lifting him in and out.

Jackson has a good head on his shoulders

Jackson's doctor was afraid his anterior fontanelle (aka: soft spot) closed to soon and wanted us to get it checked out. So I took the day off, and Jackson and I met Brian at his hospital and walked down to see the neurologist at the UT building.
Waiting for the doc

Dr. Butler came in with his bag of tricks (literally) and examined Jackson's head. He said Jackson has a beautiful head and the size of his head is good. Dr. Butler also said his soft spot is actually still open a little bit and all the other sutures were not fused. All which is a very good thing, Praise God! He told us to go on home and enjoy our special gift, and that is exactly what we do each day.

8 months

Another month has come and gone and Jackson has not stopped---

EATING:
He nurses once in the early morning, eats cereal and fruit/yogurt for breakfast, a 5 oz bottle between breakfast and lunch, eats veggie and fruit for lunch, a 7 oz bottle before dinner, eats veggie and fruit for dinner, and has a final 7 oz bottle before bed. His favorite veggies seem to be sweet potatoes or carrots and he likes all of the fruits. He tried a few new fruits this month like apricots and pinneapple. We gave Jackson puffs for the first time a few days ago and he seems to like them.

GROWING:
He is now 22 pounds, 29.5 inches long, and his head is 18 inches. He wears mostly 12 month clothes and a size 2/3 shoe.

MOVING:
He is not crawling yet, but is very close. He can get up on all fours, but usually scoots backwards instead of forward. He does somewhat of an army crawl. He rolls likes crazy and gets what he wants one way or another (especially cords)! He can now get himself from his back to sitting position. He lays on his side and then pushes himself up. He is always trying to pull himself up on things and likes to crawl over you one side then back to the other.

LAUGHING:
He is still our very happy boy! He loves the swing and laughs at us almost the whole time while in the swing. He also thinks it is hillarious when he splashes in the bathtub or I drop his rubber ducky into his tub and say BOOM!

TEETHING:
He now has 4 teeth. Two on the bottom and two on the top. The top teeth cause a little bit more pain than the bottom two.

SLEEPING:
He still sleeps very well at night. Sleep patterns still vary a little bit. On most nights he will sleep from 8:30 or 9 until 3/3:30, then he nurses and goes back to sleep until 7 or 8. He is not a big fan of naps during the day unless he is in the swing, stroller, or car. Sometimes we drive around the block just to put him down for a nap:)

TALKING:
He makes a lot of different noises. It sounds like he says dada and mama and some other random words. He is constantly babbling and talking to himself and his toys.

PLAYING:
The rubber ducky is one of his favorite toys along with his farm book that reads and sings to him. He enjoys going for stroller rides to the park and swinging. He will play by himself for a long while as long as he is not hungry or tired. He loves being outside, even if it is just sitting on a blanket.

BLESSING OUR LIVES:
We love him more and more each day! We think he is the smartest, cutest, best baby ever:) We are pretty biased. His smile and laugh can brighten up any day. Jackson has turned our lives upsided down and has us wrapped around his finger already. God thank you so much for our healthy and happy boy--We treasure him daily!
