Master Bedroom Makeover

While Mel was here back in January, we decided to redo our Master bedroom.

We painted out dark brown walls a grey and added a ship lap wall behind our bed and painted it white.

We added valances that matched the bedding,

and went shopping for new decorations.

So much lighter and inviting!

Before and after!!
We love how it turned out!

Construction Zone

Our house is in complete shambles, but the finished product will be SO worth it! Mel has been busy taking out florescent lights, installing can lights, patching the ceiling, running electricity, spraying cabinets, etc, etc. Have I mentioned how talented he is?!?!?
The final wallpaper in the house must go! The guys are coming Wednesday to install the granite counter tops. After that, Mel and Brian can lay the floor.
We have all been enjoying our time with Mel and Sharon.
Brian and I got to go out on a date. We went to eat at Chipotle and see The Lone Survivor.
Jackson has been busy playing and coloring with Grandma.
We have been outside playing a lot in the sun. Grandma is soaking up all she can before going back to Wisconsin.
I can't wait to post the finished remodel!

Guest and Master Bath Remodel

Back in January, Mel and Sharon came and stayed with us for 2 weeks. Mel did a lot of work for us. He remodeled our guest and master bathrooms. Of course, he did a great job!

Here is a progressive picture of our guest bathroom. When we bought the house, a coat of paint, and final redo.
Wood tile floor
 Vanity made by Mel
Granite counter top, good bye seashell sinks

We had already redone our master shower, so that was our inspiration for our master bathroom.
Everything flows nicely now
When we bought the house, after remodel
Vanity by Mel
Granite counter top and new back splash, again no more seashell sinks
Paint color looks way better in person

We also frosted the glass above the tub

We are loving our new bathrooms. The first few days we felt like we needed to keep walking in and checking it out. A big thanks to Mel for all his hard work!

Back to Reality

Well, the 20 hours back home in the car were worse than the ones there.
I still had Monday off before I had to head back to work. Grandma and I took Jackson to the park and enjoyed the sunshine.
Chick-fil-a was an easy choice for lunch since there are none in WI.
Jackson asked to go to the library after lunch, and we were happy to oblige. Jackson checked out about 10 books and The Caboose That Got Loose has been his favorite. It is the longest, strangest book ever:)

And the rest of the week has looked something like this:
Well, more like Mel working on our bathrooms while we were at work and Jackson was at preschool.

For one week I would say Mel did pretty well. Jackson's bathroom is 90% completed and ours is about 50% completed. It's all looking great, but I can't wait for the mess to disappear.

Stop & Smell The Roses

Our backyard has been a work in progress since we moved in. While the previous owners loved a full, overgrown lush backyard, we prefer a modest amount that we can manage. We have removed many vines, trees, and weeds along our fence and around the pool.

One side of the pool has been empty since last spring because I am not a gardening type girl. We had a landscaper come out and give us a bid to dig up roots, plant some flowers and bushes, and a few other things. It was over a thousand dollars, what! We found a crew to dig up roots and weeds for a fraction of that cost. Then, while Mel, Sharon, and Jason were here they helped Brian fertilize, plant, and mulch. Jackson was a big help too!
Brian has been coming home from work and checking on to see how the plants are doing. So, now when Jackson and I get home first we have to go over and look at them. Jackson stops at each one and says "Look, this one is blooming" or "The blue flowers are so pretty." He even has picked me several flowers!

They have added some color to our backyard and will make floating into the pool this summer even more enjoyable.

Laundry Room Makeover

I had told Brian for my birthday I wanted my laundry room painted. I loved the color we had in our old kitchen and thought it would be fun in there. Brian decided to wait until his Dad was here to have him help him. Well, Jackson and Mel did most of the work.

Jackson calls Papa Mel a "Roller Man."
Sharon also decided to throw me another little birthday party while they were here. Jackson is ALL about birrthdays, cake, and candles.
Since we had to take down all of the shelving to paint, Brian decided we would put up cabinets instead. This is a picture of before (with the previous owner's junk).
The finished result. I love it! The room feels more open and clean. I also think the color (Olive Hint) looks
better in person.
We bought a small bench to store a few things and/or sit Jackson to put his shoes on.

Now if the clothes washed, dried, and folded themselves!

Master Shower Completed

Back in May our Master shower went kaputs on us and so began the two month long construction project. Part of the reason it took that long was because of issues with the contractor and deciding on what type of shower door to go with.

This picture was from before we bought the house. We did not do anything to the shower itself, but we did take the wallpaper down and paint right away.

Here is the BEFORE picture:
Here are the AFTER pictures:

We ended up just going with a oil rubbed bronze framed door instead of a semi-framless door mostly because of the major difference in price. I was pleasantly surprised how much I actually liked the door, and Brian did a great job installing it all by himself!

Some things we did that was different than the previous shower (besides the obvious) was tile to ceiling, bring the shower out 4 inches, tiled the floor,

and put a built in soap box in.

At first we bought nickel fixtures, but last minute God provided a great deal on oil rubbed bronze fixtures. When we held up the fixtures side by side on the tile there was no question which ones to go with. I absolutely love the bronze look and how everything turned out!

Now, it is time to update the rest of the bathroom with bronze fixtures and get rid of the seashell sinks!
