Monday night after school I went to get a pedicure, a Mother's Day gift a day late. Also, I wanted my toes and eyebrows to be ready just in case I went into labor anytime soon.
Monday night, I also packed our bags for the hospital and had Brian put the car seat in the car. You know, just in case!
We went to bed around 10 o'clock, like normal, and I decided to read in bed for a little bit. After about 10 minutes of reading, I felt a gush of warm all down my legs. I woke Brian up telling him I think my water broke. He turned the lights on and all we see is blood. Freaked us out a bit and looked like a crime scene in our bedroom. We called our neighbor again to come stay with Jackson and headed out for the hospital. I was taken into the labor and delivery triage area and was checked. They said my water did break and admitted me. I was still 3 cm dilated and was having contractions. I was taken back to a labor and delivery room around 11:30 pm where Brian and I hung out for a while. I ate ice chips and felt a few contractions.
Around 3 am I was 5 cm dilated, and the on call doctor confirmed the water had not broke. I decided to wait for my doctor to come in at 7am and break my water. I got my epidural, and we tried to get some sleep.
My doctor came in around 7:30 am and broke my water. I was 6 cm dilated, and they started pitocin to try and get my contractions closer together. At around 9:30 am I was fully dilated and it was time to push. I pushed for a good 30 minutes and not much was happening. Lincoln was only moving a little. The nurse had me sit up and wait through contractions for 20 minutes. Then, she had me push for another 30 minutes and nothing changed. Brian nicely reminded her that I had the same issue last time with Jackson getting caught on my pelvis and the doctor had to use the vacuum.

My nurse called in the charge nurse, and they made me try several different positions and push for another hour. At this point, I was exhausted and frustrated. I couldn't stop some tears. I was pushing as hard as I could, I hadn't eaten anything since dinner the night before, and I was tired from no sleep. Brian again reminded them of what happened last time and kept asking if they called the doctor. Finally, my doctor came in and had me push about 5 times and then got the vacuum out. Once she used the vacuum I pushed twice and Lincoln was out. Why, didn't they listen to us 2 hours earlier!
What a relief when they placed Lincoln on my chest. What a testament of God's great love and answer to our prayers! My tears were now of happiness and love. My devotional for the day was titled "Worth the Effort." Yes, he was!
