He Wants To Be Just Like His Daddy

Jackson and I spent a fun morning at the library. His favorite part today included the computers, the tractor DVD we checked out, and seeing the forklifts working.
Jackson is a mommy's boy all day long, ok he really has no choice during the day!:) As soon as Brian comes home from work I am pretty much history. Tonight Brian told Jackson he had to go mow the lawn and Jackson almost had a meltdown until it dawned on him. He would just go help Daddy. He told Brian to go put on his green shirt, went and got his green shirt, and then found his lawnmower. It was quite the scene!

I thought Jackson would be scared of the noise from the lawnmower but he stayed out there the whole time mowing with Daddy.

At one point they both were wiping the sweat of their faces with their shirts. I wished I would have captured that one! Jackson came in from mowing said he needed a Popsicle and to watch his tractor DVD! It made me smile the whole time I was watching the two of them outside. :)

And a couple weeks ago when Brian was cleaning the pool, Jackson came running into the house frantically searching for broom. I had no idea why he wanted it until I looked out the window!

Do you still think Jackson will want to do these chores when he is 16?

Monday, Monday

Normally I dread Mondays because it means back to work but in the summer it is a whole different story. Mondays are usually our laid back day where I clean the house and catch up on laundry. And that is what we did today!

Jackson is my alram clock most days in the summer unless I have to be up at a certain time. Today he woke me up at 7:40 and then we played in our bed until 8:30. We then headed downstairs for breakfast. While I cleaned and started laundry Jackson helped me, made a few more messes, and colored.

Next, I worked out while Jackson played in the work out room and watched Cars. Then we rode bikes to the Splash Pad where we enjoyed apples and pretzels and then played. We came home and had a picnic lunch in the living room. Jackson asked to have one and was so excited. He had to call Daddy and Papa and let them know.
We folded some laundry together and played some games on starfall. Jackson went down for a nap and I did some more laundry, read some, and I think I may have dozed off for a bit too!

After naps we swam with Daddy in the pool and had dinner. Then we went to the book store and I got a few read alouds. We all needed a cool treat so we drove through McDonalds for their Frozen Strawberry Lemonades. Of course Jackson loved his and downed it in a matter of minutes!

We enjoyed our drinks outside at the park.

Daddy always can make Jackson laugh!

Our night ended with a walk, songs, and prayers. Now I will spend some time alone with Brian!

Monday, Monday I think you were so good to me!

A Sweet Sound

Jackson has really been into singing lately and loves to sing songs with us. He has Brian sing him at least 3 songs before he goes to bed. I tried to capture some of his singing the other night before he went to bed. The quality is not the best because I just had my camera and once Jackson saw the camera he started to act a little silly.

The first video is Jackson and Daddy singing Rise and Shine and Zacchaeus.

The second video is Jackson and Brian singing I've Decided to Follow Jesus.

Jackson singing praises to the Lord is such a sweet sound to my ears and my heart. I pray he is still singing to the Lord at age 12, 16, 18, 24 and decides for himself to follow Jesus with his whole being!

"Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord, all the Earth." Psalm 96:1

The World's Largest Sprinkler

We headed down to Discovery Green today to play in the World's Largest Sprinkler. We had to wait about 35 minutes or so before it was our turn.
Brian held our spot while I took Jackson to play in the fountains to help pass the time and stay cool!

We got 10 minutes to play in the sprinkler. A reporter was taking footage so whose knows we may be on the news in the near future:)

Jackson didn't really know what to think about it. For how big the sprinkler was you really didn't get very wet.

He ran from one side to the other trying to get wet!

So fun!

Love the view surrounding Discovery Green!

After our time in the sprinkler, we sat down to enjoy our picnic lunch. A nice breeze matched with our wet skin and some shade from a little tree equalled a pleasant lunch.

We then headed back to the fountains where Jackson played for our remaining time downtown. Of course he had a great time running all through the fountains!

It was such a fun day! I love days where we can get away for a bit and do something a little different with Jackson!

Have I Mentioned That...

-I love summer!

-We finally got some much needed rain, but could still use some more!

-Jackson is doing an awesome job with potty training. No accidents (besides a few little dribbles) since last Thursday and he does a pretty good job of telling us when he needs to go!!
-I think he looks pretty darn cute in his big boy underwear, even if they are Mickey ones!

-I love spending every day with Jackson even if some days are longer than others:)

-I am excited to be taking a mini vacation with Brian and Jackson very soon!

-I love waking up without an alarm clock, making breakfast with Jackson, working out, and doing what ever else sounds fun each day!

-I have read two books in the last week that I loved and kept me up much to late (but that's okay because it is summer!)

-I have many other books I still want to read!

-My dad called and informed me he only has 25 more working days until they come to visit!

-I love that he is counting down!

-I love that I still have 2 more months of summer!

The Simple Things

I went to women's Bible study last night and Jackson was way too happy to see me leave. I thought we were having fun together?!? I never know what might go on while I am gone, but I do know Jackson always has a blast hanging out just with Daddy!

Brian took some pictures to document their time together. I bet he did this just for me:)
They spent the entire night outside.

Jackson loves to run around the block and go through any sprinklers he might find along the way.

He has recently started going swimming underwater. We noticed he opens his eyes and then he can get the toys he throws down to the bottom.
Jackson earned a lot of new toys for the pool and beach by telling us he had to go potty and no accidents!

Daddy wore Jackson out and he slept in until 8 o'clock for me! I will take that any day!

After we went to story time at the library today we had to run to Wal-Mart for a few things and the only thing Jackson knows about this store is the train inside. I love that he will sit perfectly still and quiet in the cart to "ride" the train before we leave. I wonder what he would think about it if I actually put money in to make it go!

I love that Jackson's finds pleasure and joy in the simple things of life. I hope that lasts through out his whole life!

Father's Day 2011

Brian was on call all week which means we didn't see a lot of him so we were extra thankful he was off on Father's Day! We woke up and Jackson gave Brian his card and presents. Thanks to Jackson Brian already knew what they were:) We then got ready and went to church.

After church we celebrated the best daddy by going out for lunch. Jackson got to have a special treat; some Root beer and was beyond excited. It was all he could think about!

The rest of the day was pretty low key but did including lots of swimming and horse play between Jackson and daddy!

Brian is such a great dad! Even before we had Jackson I knew he would be, because of the way he loved and played with Garrison when we were dating. He is such a hands on dad and so mush fun. Jackson adores, looks up to, and mimics him. He is firm but in a loving and gentle way. Jackson is such a daddy's boy!

Daddy and his boy:)

Jackson and Daddy having lots F.U.N.

LOVE this picture! It shows a strong dad that will always "catch" his son.

I am so thankful I don't have to do this parenting thing alone and even more blessed I get to do it with my best friend! Brian, thank you for investing in Jackson's life in big and small ways each and every day.
I can't wait to see how Jackson and your relationship strengths and develops in the coming years. We both love you!

Daddy's Little Girl

I remember a essay I wrote about my dad back in 6th grade it was entitled My Dad, My Hero. I am not sure the exact words I wrote then, but I do know the title still rings true today.

Here are a few reasons my Dad is my Hero:

*He has a great work ethic that has provided for our family and others
*He never says no to someone that needs help
*His actions speak louder than his words
*He is easy going and never judges
*He loves life and laughs often
*He has saved my life by teaching me about the love and salvation of Jesus
*He forgives and asks for forgiveness
*He always tells me he loves me
*He only builds me up, never tears me down
*He made it to every important event in my life
*He is not afraid to get dirty, HA!
*He prayed with and for me and our family every day
*He never worries about tomorrow
*He loves the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind!

Dad,
Thank you for being every thing I needed you to be to me as I was growing up. I treasure most the nights you sat by or on my bed at the end of the day. You would talk with me and then pray for me. Thank you for helping raise me to be who I am today, but at heart I am still your little girl.

I love you, Dad! Happy Father's Day!

Steps In The Right Direction

I knew as soon as school was out I wanted to try and potty train Jackson. I wanted to start on a week where I would be home the whole week so he wouldn't be confused at Miss Sandy's. Monday I had a training and Tuesday we had a bunch of things we needed to do, so I wasn't sure if we should start Wednesday or not. We did!

Jackson woke up dry Wednesday morning which made me think he could do this. I left his pj's on with no diaper or underwear. He ate breakfast while I was working out, I look over at him ask him what he is doing he says pooping. I stop working out, jump off the treadmill, and run him to the bathroom. On the way he poops on the floor. Then, I let him run around the house in his new Mickey undies (as he calls them). He told me he needed to pee. Yay, a small success! We went to the potty and he peed mostly on me and over the seat (note to self: make sure he is far enough back. When I pulled his undies back up I noticed they were really wet. I am guessing he went before he said he had to go but it could have been from peeing over the seat.

Then, I just let him run around naked because we are waiting for our friends to come over and go swimming. He pees a few times in the toilet before we go out to swim. Came in for lunch, no pee in swimmer, pees in toilet. Plays with friends, no diaper, pees on the floor. Aww, man!

On Thursday morning he wakes up dry again. No accidents while I am working out and we are getting ready for Little Gym. He pees before we leave but I didn't want him to have an accident on the mats at LG so I put a diaper on him with his Mickey undies over. He promised he wouldn't make Mickey wet (just like he did every time we put a new pair on:).

At Little Gym he swung on the bars, Walked on the balance beam,
Jumped and rolled around on the mats,
But most importantly does not pee or poop during Little Gym!

He used the potty before we left and we headed to Kroger and then Target. No accidents! I was so proud and happy. Jackson asked for some juice at the store and because I was so proud and happy I got some for him and let him drink it on the way home. Once we got home he had four, yes FOUR pee accidents within an hour. I guess I let him have too much juice. He would start peeing and then scream to me "I'm peeing!" I would scream back "Stop! Run to the bathroom!" I made him help me clean it up hoping it would make him think about what he did and not want to do it again, maybe?!

I'm not sure if that is what worked but Jackson hasn't had an accident since then!! He woke up from nap dry and then used the potty. We took a walk around the neighborhood and he stayed dry.
He told me he had to poop after dinner and then he went on the potty. We made a huge deal out of it again and gave him a M&M! I kept asking every hour if he needed to pee, limited the amount he drank before bed, and had him go before bed.

Today he woke up dry again! He has told me he needed to pee a couple of times today. We met Emily and Huntley at the Splash Pad, he used the potty there, and did not go in his swimmer at all!
After lunch he told me he had to go poop twice and boy did he have to go! As he was sitting on the toilet I was thinking how happy I was I didn't need to change that diaper:) I made a huge deal about how awesome he was and how proud I was of him. We called Daddy and both Papas and Grandmas to let them know and had some M&M's to celebrate!

I love that he was so excited about it today! I know we have a ways to go yet, but I believe we are moving in the right direction. But, you can bet I am praying we have more days like today and less like yesterday morning!

A Change of Scencery

Our pool is no longer the only pool we swim in on a regular basis. We now spend some evenings at our subdivision pools. It started out with Jackson wanting to swim in the kiddie pool because he could touch all the way across, then the big pool was fun because there were lots of kids around, and finally the slide has been deemed fun!

It only took a little convincing on our parts to get Jackson to try the slide. He climbed up the big steps the first time all by himself but wouldn't go down. I broke the rules and went up to the top and sent him down crying. When he finally scooted himself all the way down the slide he was smiling and wanted to go again.

Now there is no stopping him and no need for any help from mom!

Headed up to the top,

And up,
And up some more!

The slide dumps into only 4 feet of water so Brian or I can easily wait to catch Jackson when he slides into the water. It literally takes Jackson about 5 minutes to go down the slide. I'm not sure if it is his swim shirt, shoes, or just the fact that he won't lay back. Brian tried the slide out for fun and went A LOT faster than Jackson!

I wonder when Jackson will ask us to get a slide for our pool:)

Old and New Friends

Today was such a fun day in the sun spent with friends! My "old" friend Emily, who I worked with two school years ago and my new friend Cindy, who I will work with this year came over to swim and play. Emily and Huntley showed up first. While we were waiting for Cindy and her kids, Jackson and Huntley wasted no time playing with every toy in the game room:) Once Cindy, Bailey (7 years old), Garrison (5 years old), and Riley (7 months old) arrived we went out to the pool.

The kids swam, jumped in, and splashed us:) We swam for about an hour and a half and then went in to enjoy lunch and rest. Okay, maybe the mommies rested because Jackson and the others may have been wilder inside!
Emily took Huntley home for a nap and the rest of us headed out to swim some more. Jackson absolutely loved the big kids. He followed them around, had to do what they were doing, and loved calling their names! We swam for another hour and I was wiped. I thought for sure Jackson would take an even longer nap. Nope, not longer than normal. I forget how tired I am when I spend most of the day out in the sun.

I'm sad not to work with Emily on a daily basis. But, I am so glad we still get together and have fun. I am so also thankful I have the chance of getting to know Cindy and her family better before we even work together!

I am looking forward to many more days of swimming and playing with friends this summer!

Memorizing Scripture #12

Each time something has broken or gone wrong in the last few weeks, I quickly thanked God my family was still healthy and no one was hurt. The things that went wrong could be fixed, yes they cost money but my money isn't really mine anyways. God is still God and I still have a relationship with him, a trust, and a hope in a greater future with him.

I am choosing to memorize Psalm 16:2 which says, "I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing."

How true is that? I could have everything I think I "need" and not have Jesus my life would be in the ruins. But, because I have him that is all I truly need!

Psalm 85:10 also says "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." I love what David Crowder said in his book Praise Habit about this Psalm. On page 109 he writes "Even if it (life) leads us to dark places on our hands and knees, it is sweeter than lying on a beach in Greece because the sunshine of our Maker's presence is brighter and stronger than a thousand stars, and it reaches to wherever we are."

I hope this memory verse serves as a great reminder that the Lord is ALL I need to be filled with overflowing joy and true happiness!

Randomness

*It has been over 90 degrees the last 20 some days and over 95 degrees almost as many days so we are really thankful we have a pool. As you can tell from all my pictures and posts we spend most of our days in the pool. Although I feel like mother nature is playing some cruel joke on me. We take a bike ride or walk to the park and the sun in blazing down on us. As soon as we step foot in the pool the sun goes behind the clouds and a slight breeze starts blowing and I become cold. Jackson sings a lot of "Mr. Sun" for me!

*Brian painted my toes for me. Isn't he sweet!?! He used to do this for me all the time when we were dating. He hasn't had the opportunity to do it for a long time since I usually get a pedicure. But because we have had to buy a new Polaris for the pool, redo our shower, fix the A/C in my Jeep, and most recently fix the hole in Brian's bumper I decided to save us some money. Not sure I will be getting a pedicure all summer long. I did buy a new bottle of nail polish and I bravely opted for a bright blue. I wasn't sure about it, but I love how fun it is. Every time I look down at my toes I can't help but smile:)

*I am not sure when I became a coffee person, but I am. I am so thankful for all the gift cards from my students so I can indulge in this joy of mine without costing me a penny. And, nothing beats sipping a vanilla latte while floating in the pool!

*Cheryl and I taught some staff development classes today on Classroom Libraries, Book Shopping, and Independent Reading and another one on Integrating Science and Social Studies into Language Arts. This was my first staff development class to teach with a "live" audience. I didn't know what to expect. I think it went really well and was actually kind of fun! This really is my passion; sharing what I love doing and how I implement it with other teachers. I guess now I have to figure out what other classes I could teach, right Wendy?:)

*I decided to grow my hair out this summer. I don't know if it was more an effort to save money or to be able to do something different once it is a bit longer. It is easy to throw back in a ponytail for pool days and any other day I am too lazy to do my hair (which is a lot in the summer). However, it drives me crazy when I leave it down. The back is longer than the sides so I feel like I look ridiculous.

*I think that is enough randomness for today!

No Agendas

One of the best things about summer is I have no real agenda or schedule we must adhere to. Sure there are days I have staff development or things we must do, but the majority of the days we do and go where and went we want.

So far this week we have:

*Attended Bible Study

*Made and ate cake balls

*Played at the Little Gym

*Swam with Emily and Huntley

*Shared our toys with Huntley

*Taken 3 hours naps (Jackson) and completed LA and Math Moodles

*Created a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree and painted in a tent and at a table

*Cuddlde and read numerous books before nap time

*Swam with mommy in the mornings

*Grocery shopped and saved 58% at Kroger

*Taken walks and ate Popsicles for breakfast and as snacks

*Sang songs and danced around the house

*Pushed bedtimes back to swim late at night with daddy

*Enjoyed the time just being together and hanging out!
