TAGS-Texas Age Group Swim Championship

TAGS Short Course Championships 2019
Jackson qualified for 10 events to swim at TAGS, Texas State Swimming Meet, which is quite the feat. Less than 2% of all the swimmers in Texas qualify for one event, much less 10! He could only swim 7 individual events through out the meet.

Day 1: Friday, March 8, 2019
We had to skip school for Friday's events. He is official!

They started with a parade of all the swimmers.

Jackson's cheering section!!
It was SO nice to have all the grandparents, Garrison, Kate, Ian, and Aunt Midge cheering him on!

Jackson swam 100 Breast, 200 Free, and 100 IM in prelims. He dropped time in all his races and qualified for A Finals in 100 Breast and 100 IM and B Finals in 200 Free!! INCREDIBLE!!
The hard part of TAGS is the downtime between prelims and finals. Thankfully Brian's parents had a hotel room close by to hang out between.

Finals did not go the way Jackson hoped. His first race he was seeded 4th and took 8th. He was hard on himself and it affected his next two races. He was able to bounce back and help his team take 2nd place in their 400 Free Relay.
Jackson, Aidan, Clark, and Jack

I headed home with a heavy mom heart for my boy. Overall he did well, he was feeling down and not happy with his races. Brian stayed with him in the Woodlands at the hotel. While Jackson was showering, Brian was grabbing some things to help cheer him up. Cupcakes and spaghetti and meatballs make everything better!

He went to bed feeling better and ready to race on Day 2!

Results from Day 1:

Day 2: Saturday, March 9, 2019

We were back at the pool by 9am for Day 2!
Love having my parents here cheering on Jackson.

Jackson swam the 200 IM, 50 Free, and 50 Breast in prelims. He dropped time in all three events and qualified for A Finals for 50 Free, B Finals for 200 IM and 50 Breast.

Besides our windblown hair, just picture is just perfect!
So much love for our swimmer! So thankful they would all drive over 2,000 miles just to watch Jackson swim.
Ian was cheering him on too!

This picture was after prelims, and I was just SO proud.
Jackson overcame a rough first day and did amazing. He was seeded 19th in the 50 Free, made A Finals, and then took 5th place overall in the state of Texas for 10 and under!!

Jackson swam great in Finals and the relay team surprised us in the 200 Free relay and took 3rd place!
Jackson, Clark, Kerry, and Chase

Lincoln missed his brother as Jackson swam so much and stayed overnight in the hotel.

Day 3: Sunday, March 10, 2019
Final day of TAGS!
By this point we aren't sure what day it is as we have been at the pool from 9am until 8pm, and Brian and Jackson were getting there even earlier!
SO proud of our boy!

His only event for the day was the 100 Back.

Loved catching moments of Jackson with his coach after his events! Fist bump!

Mrs. Fitta, Jackson's teacher, drove all the way to see him in his one race. Jackson was so excited that she came. His first teacher to ever watch him swim, very special!

We all love our swimmer! He qualified for B Finals in the 100 Back.

We made it to the final stretch...

A great way to end the weekend, 1st place in the 200 Medley Relay!!!
1st in the state of Texas for 10 and Under
Jackson(back), Cayden(breast), Jack(fly), and Clark(free)

Friends from other teams!
One thing I love about Jackson is his sportsmanship and how he forms friendships with those he swims against. He cheers for his rivals!
Jackson and Derek Johnson from SSAN

Coach Colin has helped Jackson so much in three months, can't wait to see how grows in the next three months!

Wearing a few of his medals

 Results from Day 3:

Jackson definitely swam with all his heart this weekend! He dropped time and made finals in all 7 events that he swam at the State meet. We are extremely proud of him!!❤️
